DAVIM CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENT

The setting up of the DAVIM Centre for Environment 2008 was an initiative towards addressing the environmental crisis threatening the human beings and various other species on this planet
Objective:Confronting threatening environmental issues is the key agenda of all aspects of activities carried out by this center. All the faculty members and students are encouraged to have sincere concern for the environment they are in and what the possible implications of their actions may have on it.
DAVIM Centre for Environment accepts its obligation to comply with all relevant legislation and minimize the impact of adverse human activities upon the environment. In recognition of this, the centre has begun to implement an environmental system which focuses on:
  • Education about environmental issues
  • Minimizing waste/ utilizing waste productively
  • Monitoring of Energy Consumption
  • Steadfast commitment for preventing pollution
  • Continuous Tree Plantation Activities

  • Some of the routine activities of the centre are-Sensitization Seminars, Tree Plantation Drives, Sapling Distribution, Commemoration of Earth Day, Ozone day, Eco- Friendly drive, Nukkad Nataks to create awareness for environment protection etc.

    Tree Plantation

Planting a tree is a lifetime investment. How well this investment grows depends on the type of tree selected and the planting location, the care provided during planting and after planting. A full size tree provides environmental, economic, and social benefits throughout its life. Ideally, trees are planted during the rainy season as the weather conditions are cool and allow plants to establish roots in the new location without difficulty.
Tree plantation is good for the environment. Everybody knows that trees are the source of oxygen without which the survival of living beings is not possible on earth. Trees also absorb various harmful gases including sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide and also filter injurious pollutants from the atmosphere thereby providing us fresher and cleaner air to breathe.
The rising amount of air pollution caused by the smoke emitted by vehicles and factories can be controlled only if we plant maximum number of trees.
DAVIM has been an active participant in plantation drives of MCF. Keeping the movement on, we planted trees of fruit bearing plants and shade giving trees in association with Forest department and MCF, Faridabad in nearby places such as NIT 3, Central line, RWA parks. We also distributed saplings amongst our staff members.

    Green Souvenir

Celebrations, Commemorations, seminars, programmes and other occasions are incomplete without exchanging gifts and souvenirs which are meant to be cherished and remembered, thereby, creating long-lasting impressions. Most gifts have a shelf life ranging from 2 days to 2 months, i.e., flower bouquets, chocolates etc. All these gifts are lifeless and do not last for very long. We, at DAVIM, strive to transform the gifting culture to greener, happier and healthier idea. By gifting green souvenirs, we are able to set up good example in front of young generation and fulfill our social responsibility too. Gifting of potted plants to guests on all occasions be it conference, seminar, blood donation, guest lectures etc. has become a practice at DAVIM.

    Waste Management

DAVIM strives to reduce the carbon foot prints on this earth. To fulfill this moral responsibility, the institute tackles the issue from different angles.
The Institute emphasizes on paperless office to save papers and in return reduces cutting of trees. For this reason, almost the whole administrative work is computerized: be it general administration, or Library, accounts or any other department: all use automation. Even papers used on one side are not disposed off but stocked for reuse in various official works.
The cartridges of laser printers are refilled till final use.

Blood Donation Camps and Bed to Bed Donation

The objectives of this practices are:

To make students play a participative and constructive role for the welfare of the society at large.

    The Context

Blood donation once in semester as well as during emergencies, bed to bed blood donation by the students on demand immediately to the patients in emergency.

    The Practice

“The Gift of Blood is the greatest Gift”. Putting this maxim into practice, the students and faculty are motivated to heart fully donate blood, thus making them responsible and concerned.

Rotaract Club of DAVIM - “Nishkam Seva”

DAVIM Rotaract Club has been established under the aegis of DAVIM centre for Environment in association with Rotary Club of Faridabad with a motive to do Nishkam Seva. The Club consists of team of student volunteers who work for the society to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto of Faridabad Rotary Club “Service Above Self “.
Rotaract Club under the Aegis of DAVIM (CFE) organizes blood donation camps in collaboration with Rotary club once in six months wherein the students and the faculty come forward to donate blood. Also at times of emergency they rescue the people in need.
The students of the club participate enthusiastically in all the activities the year around that involves any kind of social concern. There are around 70+ student members who have successfully registered themselves in the club.
Rotary can transform college students into globetrotting future leaders, because it’s all about paving the way for the next generation of civic leaders. Previously also before formation of the Rotaract Club DAVIM had been organizing blood donation camps with Lions Club on regular basis. Evidence of Success- Awards From Rotary Club, Lions Club and Recognition by Faridabad Administration.

Automation and Information Technology in Governance

The objectives of this initiative are:
  • Creating for the institute community an ambiance and transparent environment that advances a civil and sustainable society.
  • To introduce automation in governance for standardization and automating repetitive, or time-consuming tasks
  • To provide assisted intelligence for swift execution of tasks and
  • To provide instant availability and access of the information needed by the students, parents, faculty and administrative officers, and all the stakeholders.
  • To provide instant availability and access of the information needed by the students, parents, faculty and administrative officers, and all the stakeholders.
  • To make library resources accessible and available to students and staff for resource management and research work.
  • The Context

Science and technology are growing alarmingly and consequently the knowledge base of all disciplines are fast expanding. The educational system is invested with the responsibility of absorbing, assimilating and delivering the new knowledge to its incumbents. Education has become competitive and so too the educational institutions. In order to survive the competition, institutions have to improve the quality of their services. Student centric focus is gradually shifting to student friendly approaches, and innovations and best practices are adopted to add value and provide customer satisfaction.

    The Practice

The designing and implementation of automation for a self-financed institution, which has its own organizational structure and delegated responsibilities/ functioning of various departments was a challenge since no ready-made software was available. It was a challenge for all the academic departments to sit together with administration and accounts and create linkage of all the activities and getting the output in desired formats.

The Institute has undertaken various initiatives to set up office automation with the help of Third party softwares.
  • Staff Attendance:
Attendance of staff is recorded through employee Biometric attendance system which is automatically compiled by the software for the requirement of salary generation. Faculty can avail the facility of leave application from any where, even outside the institute and can also check their attendance record, as and when required.
  • Fee Management System:
e-shiksha is the payment gateway where the students can pay fee through web based application and can generate their fee receipt. The fee collection office generates the daily collection record by transferring it into their modified TALLY software and can check the balance fee and send notification to students accordingly. This helps in managing the fee funds: incoming, balance calculation and receipt generation of each student enrolled for the period of his/her stay in the institute.
  • Library Management System:
“VIDYA” LMS helps in managing the record of books/ Journals/periodicals/news papers etc. In addition to this, individual members’ records of Issuance and return of books by faculty and students is effectively maintained by it.

  • “DELNET” is a major resource sharing library network in India connecting more than 6500 libraries in 33 states and 8 other countries. Faculty and students at DAVIM has access to more than two crore fifty lakh record of books, periodicals articles, theses and dissertations, video-recordings, sound recordings and database which is continuously updated.

    Evidence of Success

In the present day, establishing an office and maintaining it is an art itself. A scene of professionalism is required in using automation in governance and managing it efficiently. This is where the administrators are professionally trained in various aspects of use of information technology in modern day office management.

Automation of administration has resulted in management of faculty records: attendance, leave /on-duty and ultimately effectiveness in salary generation at the end of each month. This has also helped the administration department in almost no-error status of faculty service record maintenance.
Fee-Management system has helped in keeping the fee collection records updated without human interference. This has also reduced the traffic in fee office as the students use app based facility to pay their fee. Use of on-line methods for cash transaction has reduced the burden of the fee department in managing cash, leading to lesser human errors.
LMS has helped the library in keeping track of its resources and give the one-window facility to students for issuance-return of books. No-dues slips are generated on the basis of automated records.
DELNET has provided an excellent data base for all types of extended learning activities and research work.

    Problems encountered and resources required

Introduction of new technology is never without hiccups. This also happened in introduction of software for administration where it took a lot of time and energy to customize it for the institutional need.
Fee-management system also required customization as per the organizational need. Differential fee system is also a challenge for its implementation. And it would be a continued process since admission is a continuous process year after year.
Recording of data base every year for new entrants is a regular task for library department.
